
On Tuesday June 14, two books on the early years of the Fulbright program in Austria were presented at the Amerika Haus in Vienna: Thomas König’s Die Frühgeschichte des Fulbright Progam in Österreich (StudienVerlag, 2012) and a special volume of the Austrian periodical zeitgeschichte (2012/1), “Impacts and Images: The Challenges of U.S. Cultural Policy in Postwar Austria and Germany.”

The Austrian-American Educational Commission celebrated the centennial birthday of J. William Fulbright with a ceremonial act at the Diplomatic Academy Vienna on 8 April, 2005.

On June 5, 2000, the Austrian Fulbright Commission celebrated the 50th anniversary of the signature of the initial Fulbright exchange agreement between Austria and the United States that was concluded on June 6, 1950 in Washington, D.C. At the Festakt former Fulbright students Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Dr. William Bader (University of Munich, '53-54) and High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador Dr. Wolfgang Petritsch (University of Southern California, '72-73) spoke on "Fulbright in the 21st Century: Looking Back - Looking Ahead."
As part of the commemorative celebration, the Commission has published the Festschrift "Fulbright at Fifty. Austrian-American Educational Exchange 1950-2000". This publication provides an overview of the program with contributions by five decades of Fulbrighters.
On July 16, 2002 a 50th anniversary event was held for the inaugural Austrian Fulbright class 1951/52 at the residence of the American ambassador. See a video of the July 2002 event.
