Academic Mobility Between Austria and the United States: Status, Trends,
and New Opportunities

| The objective of this one-and-a-half day conference held at the Amerika Haus and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Theatersaal) on November 20 and 21, 2008 was to bring experts from the United States and Austria together with the policy makers and administrative practitioners of international education from Austrian institutions of higher education (a) to evaluate the current status of academic mobility in both directions at various levels and provide an overview of current opportunities; (b) to discuss the implications of the apparent structural "convergence" of European and American educational systems; and (c) to investigate to what extent the Bologna process represents new opportunities for enhanced transatlantic cooperation and mobility.
