Fulbright/Diplomatic Academy Grant
|
||||||||||||
| The Austrian-American Educational Commission (Fulbright Commission) and the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna collaborate to provide a grant for qualified students to enroll in either of the two one-year programs the Diplomatic Academy offers for university graduates: the Diplomatic Academys Diploma Program or its Master of Advanced International Studies (MAIS). The Diploma Program offers a wide-ranging academic program, combined with a strong emphasis on skill acquisition. This includes an intensive foreign language program and training in the practical professional skills necessary for an international career. All applicants must have successfully completed a first degree in any discipline from an accredited university or college. Candidates are expected to have a good knowledge of English and of either French or German with at least basic skills in the third language. Written applications will be prescreened and selected, semi-finalists will be required by the Diplomatic Academy to take a written exam (proctored at their home institutions) and may be requested to appear for a video conference or interview at an Austrian diplomatic mission (consulate) in the US. The MAIS program entails a wide range of courses in international and European law, economics, contemporary history, and international relations. It focuses on European Studies and aims at deepening the knowledge and skills of its participants. Students are required to write a Masters thesis. Applications are especially encouraged from graduates with a first degree in the fields of political science, economics, law, or history and with further interdisciplinary studies or background comparable to the Diplomatic Academy's Diploma Program. Instruction is in English, and finalists will be selected upon the basis of their written applications. Although there are no other language requirements for the MAIS program, knowledge of German is an advantage. For more information about these programs consult http://www.da-vienna.ac.at
