Anita McChesney, associate professor of German at Texas Tech University and the 2024–25 Fulbright-Botstiber Visiting Professor of Austrian-American Studies in Austria, will give a public workshop entitled "Zwischen Aufbruch und Ankunft: Auswanderung aus Österreich in die USA im Spiegel von Literatur und visueller Kultur." The workshop will shed light on the history of Austrian migration to the US from a cultural-historical perspective with a focus on literary texts, historical sources, and visual representations that have shaped migrants' perceptions of themselves and others' perceptions of migrants over the centuries. The workshop offers an interdisciplinary approach to the history of migration and invites discussion about identity, memory, and representation.
Please note that this is a two-part workshop, with the first part running in the morning and the second part running in the afternoon. The workshop will be run in German. No registration is needed for this free event.
