More than 70 US and Austrian students, scholars and teaching assistants participated in this year’s Fulbright Seminar in American Studies; a three-day long intellectual mountain retreat and the highlight of the Austrian Fulbright calendar. Held in Strobl am Wolfgangsee from April 27-29, 2017, this annual event is an opportunity for US Fulbright students to connect and share their research through poster presentations, and serves as a pre-departure orientation for Austrian Fulbrighters and FLTAs. US Fulbright scholars give talks on topics related to American Studies from a variety of disciplinary perspectives (from nationalism and patriotism and the life and death of the American city to social media and society and racism in Hollywood), and the USTA Regional Advisers, second-year USTAs who serve as a local resource to new TAs in their region, also attended to discuss best practices. The Fulbright Seminar in American Studies is a wonderful opportunity for US and Austrian Fulbrighters in various disciplines and programs to meet, network, and promote mutual understanding.
