For someone who wants to pursue a career in the diplomatic service, education is not the only important factor. Intercultural competence is also an important part of the job. In 1993–94, Ulrike Butschek was a Fulbright student and spent a year in the US, where she completed a master's degree. After completing her studies, she began her career at the Austrian foreign ministry—a career in which she has, among other things, served as an ambassador. We met with Ulrike to chat about her Fulbright experiences in the US and her career after graduation.
