Fulbright
Storytelling

Caitlin Gura

"...the people I met helped open my mind to examine challenges differently and to appreciate different perspectives, not only just to talk, but also how to meaningfully listen."

For me, the profound impact of my Fulbright experience constantly reveals itself in the years following my time as a Combined Grantee in 2013-14 and a USTA in 2014-15. Within these two years, I experienced so many wonderful moments and exchanges, from working with young students in Viennese Gymnasien to exploring how Austrian identity narratives are displayed within the vitrines of museums. Within that time I was able to collect not only valuable memories, but most importantly establish precious friendships; the people I met helped open my mind to examine challenges differently and to appreciate different perspectives, not only just to talk, but also how to meaningfully listen. These contacts and exchanges incessantly unveil new insights and knowledge since my time as a grantee, which have inspired me to share these with others. While a Fulbright grant may just last for a short while, it truly provides long-lasting impact.
