Thank Fulbright – Thanksgiving hits the news!

Thank Fulbright – Thanksgiving—what a tradition. More than 100 alumni and friends joined Fulbright Austria in celebrating Thanksgiving on "Giving Tuesday" (November 27) at Glacis Beisl. Austrian and American Fulbright alumni from seven decades mingled with friends of the Fulbright Program over a traditional dinner co-hosted by Fulbright Austria and the Austrian Fulbright Alumni Association to celebrate and recognize our first major donors! We were touched that over 120 donors contributed more than €20,000 in the last five weeks alone to help us continue to send Austrians and Americans across the Atlantic.

You can still take a peek inside and see what Austrian and American alumni had to say about their life-changing Fulbright experience in this video.

Special guests of the evening included Chargé d’Affaires Robin Dunnigan from the U.S. Embassy, who was excited to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Fulbright family:

For over 65 years, Fulbright Austria has brought Americans and Austrians together through academic exchange. Next to the Marshall Plan, the Fulbright Program is one of the United States’ biggest success stories when it comes to international relations. Expanding our horizons, getting to know the world as others see it is what Senator Fulbright envisioned. He recognized that educational exchanges would serve as a powerful tool for promoting peace and friendship among nations. This is what we need most—now perhaps more than ever.

Additional guests included Dr. Lothar Hofmann, president of the Austrian Fulbright Alumni Association—which also partly sponsored the event—as well as the association’s board members, Dr. Karlheinz Schwarz, Lisa Reck Burneo, and Dr. Irene Zavarsky. Members of the Austrian business community, amongst them Alois Steinbichler, Herbert Cordt, and Frank Holzer, mingled with current grantees, our board members, and alumni from seven decades.

We have also created a Facebook album with some highlights and comments, and you can browse through an online album of over 100 pictures taken by our photographer Adrian Almasan at  http://bit.ly/ThankFulbrightPics
