Matthew Shih is a recent graduate from the University of Virginia with degrees in music and cognitive science. During his Fulbright year, he is teaching English and conducting research at the exil.arte Center, which is affiliated with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Matthew’s research focuses on piecing together and evaluating the life of a Viennese composer who was exiled—first to Shanghai and then later the United States—during the World War II era. After his Fulbright year in Austria, Matthew will pursue his doctoral studies in musicology at the University of Toronto.
