Emily Freiburger is an alumna of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She transferred there from a small community college in northern Illinois and graduated with a major in global studies (political science, culture, language, etc.) and a minor in German. She recently spent a semester abroad in Vienna at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in a German-language program and enjoyed the music, history, and, of course, the incredible food. In her free time she loves to read books, spend time outdoors, play the piano and french horn, write short stories, go to Broadway shows, and listen to and obsess over my favorite band, Queen.
Emily first began learning German at her local community college. she took a semester of online Spanish and struggled quite a lot. It was really disheartening, but when she went to her advisor and asked if there was another language she could try, they mentioned German. It was love at first try. She had an incredible teacher who was incredibly patient with her students and never let them give up. She inspired Emily to continue with the language—and continues to encourage her to this day. Emily learned how important it is to have a good teacher, and she will do her utmost to inspire her students as her German professor did with her.
