Jessie Thwaites is a May 2019 graduate from the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University in physics. This academic year she is doing research in magnetosphere space physics with the Institut für Weltraumforschung. Her past research experience includes a summer of research in magnetosphere space physics at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics in Boulder, Colorado, studying magnetic reconnection. She also did research in particle physics at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, searching for beyond-the-standard-model (BSM) physics through precision measurement. Outside of physics, she has worked as a camp counselor, teaching ESL and science to kids from elementary to high school. She has also played horn for 12 years and recently performed her first half-recital. After her grant in Austria, she intends to attend a graduate program for a doctorate in physics.
