Shelby graduated summa cum laude from Truman State University in May 2020. She earned a bachelor's degree in English with minors in French and German. In 2018, she spent a year in Fribourg/Freiburg through an academic exchange at Universität Freiburg, Schweiz. She took courses in German, French Decadentism, American literature, and autobiographical theory. Throughout her studies, she wrote thorough research on ecocriticism, Utahn autobiographies, desert literature, dogs in US literature, and second-language acquisition theory. Shelby is an active supporter of conservation and believes that connecting people to nature through environmental writing and photography is pivotal in transforming indifference towards environmental atrocities to strong environmental advocacy. She hopes to further her studies by obtaining a master's degree in the environmental humanities in the near future. Her personal interests include hiking, training dogs, and museum-hopping.
