Courtney Yamagiwa grew up in Modoc County, a small rural area in northeastern Cailfornia. Courtney received her BAs in German and consumer affairs and her MA in German from California State University Long Beach (CSULB). As an active member of the German Studies Student Association at CSULB, Courtney helped organize numerous events ranging from weekly Stammtische to international conferences. Courtney was also active in student government, panhellenic, and student activitst organizations. She helped to stop tuition and fee increases and to pass legislation to make community college free in California. During her graduate studies, Courtney served as a teaching associate in three different German classes and was a graduate assistant for Professor Jeffrey L. High in four sections of undergraduate honors classes. In 2019, Courtney participated in the International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Bundestag , during which time she lived in Berlin and experienced democratic processes as an intern for Katja Suding, MdB.
In her free time Courtney enjoys hiking, reading, and hanging out with friends. Courtney is excited to learn more about Austrian culture while sharing her own US culture.
