Lisa Schmidthuber is a Fulbright visiting scholar at Stanford University in the fall quarter 2022 and an assistant professor at the Institute for Public Management and Governance at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU).

Lisa’s research focuses on citizen-state interaction as well as the role of civil society in strengthening democracy. She is interested in how transparent public information and citizen participation can improve the relationship between citizens and government and contribute to more effective public-service delivery. In particular, she studies the potential of leveraging digital technology to organize interaction more effectively. In addition, she focuses on how civil-society organizations promote public participation and empower citizens to participate in politics.

Before joining WU, Lisa worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Institute of Public and Nonprofit Management at Johannes Kepler University Linz. During her doctoral studies, she was a visiting scholar at Suffolk University Boston. She received her doctoral degree in business administration in 2018 with a paper-based dissertation on open government and the exploration and exploitation of external knowledge in the public sector. Her doctoral thesis was awarded with the Goerdeler Preis.
