For years, Fulbright Austria’s full-time study/research award, which was open to all disciplines, primarily went to recipients in the arts. In recognition of the award’s de facto focus on the arts, Fulbright Austria decided in December 2024 to rename the award and dedicate it specifically to artistic applicants.
Starting in the 2026–27 program year, Fulbright Austria will be offering the Fulbright Student Award in Music, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. This will allow recipients to pursue full-time research or study in related disciplines in a country with a deep historical connection to the arts.
The newly renamed award for students ties in nicely with the arts-specific Specialist award Fulbright Austria launched in 2023 and strengthens the commission’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for artists in both its student and scholar portfolios.
We look forward to reviewing student applications for the 2026–27 program year during the next application cycle, which will run from 31 March 2025 to 7 October 2025, and to welcoming the first recipient of this rebranded, arts-focused award!
