The Fulbright Specialist Program pairs highly qualified US academics and professionals with Austrian host institutions to share their expertise, strengthen institutional ties, gain international experience, and learn about Austrian culture while building capacity at their Austrian host institution. Specialists are competitively selected to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster based on their knowledge, skill sets, and ability to make a significant contribution to their host institution. The academics on the roster are eligible to be matched with approved projects designed by Austrian host institutions.
What type of projects does the program fund?

At the same time, Fulbright Specialists are able to contribute their newly gained knowledge and intercultural competencies to their home institution or organization. Program participants will also become part of a network of thousands of accomplished Fulbright alumni, opening the door to additional grant possibilities, enhanced career development, and alumni networking and leadership opportunities.
If you want to submit an application, please register with the online submission platform and follow the instructions. When you fill out your application, please complete all sections and required fields. Grant dates must be fixed by the time of submission. Please also plan in time to complete the visa process for yourself and any dependents traveling with you. Try to be as specific as possible in the sections related to your project and to logistical arrangements/cost share.
Please submit your application by 1 April. Fulbright Austria will review all applications and select up to five projects, which will then be forwarded to the Bureau for Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). If ECA confirms the selection, Fulbright Austria and World Learning will search for a Fulbright Specialist who matches your project if you submitted an open project, or prompt your preferred academic to apply for admission to the Fulbright Specialist Roster if you submitted a named project.
