Before applying, please read the following frequently asked questions:
What is the difference between a subcommittee member and a reviewer?
While an external subcommittee member has voting rights in the selection process, a reviewer provides an expert evaluation of the application for the subcommittee but does not make final decisions.
Would membership in the subcommittee exclude me from serving on the Fulbright Austria Alum Advisory Panel?
Being an external subcommittee member does not exclude you from being an alum advisory panel member.
Would membership in the subcommittee exclude me from being a reviewer or interviewer for Fulbright Austria?
Being an external subcommittee member for one program does not exclude you from being a reviewer or interviewer for other programs in Fulbright Austria’s portfolio.
Can I apply for grants at Fulbright Austria when serving on the subcommittee?
No, you cannot. Being an external subcommittee member makes you ineligible for the grant programs overseen by that subcommittee until one year after your term limit has ended.
Who can apply for the subcommittee positions?
The call for applications is open to all academic fields and carrier levels. It is not limited to alums of Fulbright Austria’s programs. Applicants should offer expertise that is relevant to the subcommittee’s work. Those in leadership positions at Fulbright Austria’s academic partner organizations and funding partners associated with specific grants cannot serve as external members on the relevant subcommittees.
When does the term start?
The term starts with the constitution of the subcommittee, either in the last board meeting of the year (typically in November/December) or in the first board meeting of the new calendar year (typically in January). The term ends with the constitution of the next subcommittee. External subcommittee members may be reselected annually for up to three consecutive years.
Is external subcommittee membership a paid role?
No. Subcommittee service is voluntary and unpaid.
How often do subcommittees meet?
At least once per year, either in person or virtually. Additional preparation (e.g., review of applications) is required ahead of meetings.
