Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Eugene S. Young hosted a Fulbright reception that proved to be a highlight of US Orientation Week. More than 80 US Fulbright grantees, "homecoming" Austrian grantees, members of the Fulbright Austria board, representatives of institutions that collaborate with Fulbright Austria, and other friends and associates of the Fulbright Program in Austria met for an evening of networking and socializing.
In his welcoming remarks, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Eugene S. Young underlined the enduring importance of the Fulbright Program as an ongoing Austrian-American joint enterprise. Dr. Marcus Bergmann from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs - an alumnus of the Fulbright program and board member - highlighted the contributions of Fulbright Austria`s many institutional partners, and Prof. Karlheinz Schwarz, President of the Austrian Fulbright Alumni Association, commented on the manifold impacts of the program. In his concluding remarks and thanks, Executive Director Dr. Lonnie R. Johnson reflected on the challenges the Fulbright Program currently confronts and the importance of sustained support in the future.
