  • During my Fulbright-facilitated lecture visit to the University of Lund, I developed a research project with three members of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights (Merethe Borge MacLeod, Head of Office in China, based in China; Helena Olsson, Programee Office, working with South/Southeast Asia currently based in Jakarta; and Olga Bezbozhna, Programme Officer working on cooperation with Belarus, based in Lund); these scholars are writing an article on advancing human rights in three difficult environments, drawing on chapter 4 of my recently published The Human Rights State for its analytic framework; to be submitted for peer review for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Human Rights in 2017.

  • During my visit I worked out a collaborative research project in the form of a contribution by a NCHR member, Gorana Ognjenovic, to a collection of articles I am editing for publication in peer-reviewed International Human Rights Journal; she will apply aspects of my recently published book The Human Rights State (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2016) to empirical, historical experience of human rights advocacy in the region of her research expertise, the Balkans today.

US Fulbright Scholar Maureen Daly Goggin, University of Graz/Arizona State University, will be giving a talk on “Writing Trauma in Pens of Steel and Inks of Thread” on June 1 as part of a Fulbright lecture series hosted by the Department for English and American Studies at LMU Munich. She was also invited to talk about “Women Hidden in Plain Sight: Race and Aging in Art and Life” by the Andrássy University Budapest, on May 11.
