Elizabeth Martin-Shukrun
Counselor for Public Affairs
US Embassy Vienna
Elizabeth Martin-Shukrun became the counselor for public affairs at the US embassy to Austria in July 2023. Elizabeth most recently served as cultural affairs officer at the US embassy in Paris (2019–22). Elizabeth started her career in Israel and has also served in positions in Europe, Latin America, and Washington, DC, including as spokesperson at the US embassy in Bogota; cultural affairs officer at the US Mission to the European Union; and desk officer covering France, the Vatican, and Monaco. Elizabeth holds a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the US Army War College. She speaks German, French, and Spanish. Elizabeth is a member of the Senior Foreign Service. Originally from Chicago (White Sox fan), Elizabeth enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling and is grateful to be joined in these adventures by her husband (a Fulbright alum) and three children. Elizabeth has served on the boards of Fulbright France and the Fulbright-Schuman program. Her commitment to international education began as a high-school student in Spain and an undergraduate in France—and it has only grown. She looks forward to contributing to Fulbright Austria’s crucial role in the US-Austrian relationship.
