Juan German joined the Foreign Service in 2015. He is currently the cultural attaché at the US embassy in the Republic of Austria. His most recent assignment saw him fill the roles of assistant cultural attaché for exchanges, education, and entrepreneurship as well as the chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Council at the US embassy in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Previously, he was the press attaché and spokesperson for the US consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and vice consul in Beijing, China. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he interned in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Office of Public Diplomacy, and at the US consulate general in Recife, Brazil. Juan also interned for the Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the United Nations, where he helped Guatemala get elected to the Security Council and the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Juan was born in the Dominican Republic and grew up in Rhode Island. Juan holds a master of science in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor of arts in diplomacy and world affairs from Occidental College. He is fluent in Spanish, Italian, and German and has conversational Mandarin and Vietnamese.
