On Faschingsdienstag, March 5, 2019, Fulbright Austria decided to do something different: to support a good cause while also getting the Fulbright Austria alumni community together—and to have fun along the way. We supported Kiwanis International’s charity campaign for “Debra Austria –Schmetterlingskinder.” Every Krapfen sold supports a child with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), the so-called butterfly children, so named because their skin is as sensitive as a butterfly's wings.
Alumni of all programs and current students were invited to stop by the Fulbright Austria office in the afternoon to get a Faschingskrapfen for free—and costumes were welcome! In total, more than 25 stopped by and transformed our office into a Fasching festivity with colorful outfits, lively discussions, and more than 40 Krapfen with the famous peach jam. Our sunny terrace was pre-opened for the spring, and we enjoyed the Fulbright Austria community coming together for a good cause. In total, the campaign was able to distribute more than 4,000 Krapfen, and we are excited to be part of the more than €4,000 that were donated to the charity and to children in dire need. Stay tuned for more Fulbright Austria alumni events and outreach happenings, like our monthly AfterWorkNetwork #AddictedtoFulbright, happening over the course of the next year!
