Fulbright Austria is pleased to announce its new partnership with the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland (UAS Burgenland) in the field of energy and environmental management. UAS Burgenland has been celebrating its 25th anniversary during the 2018–19 academic year and is thus one of Austria’s oldest universities of applied sciences, with campuses in Eisenstadt and Pinkafeld. UAS Burgenland is internationally renowned for its holistic, implementation-focused research in energy and environmental management, and Fulbright Austria is proud to add this partnership to its portfolio and to make a contribution to the development of sustainable technologies by bringing experts from the US to Burgenland.
Environmental management and sustainability are issues that are becoming more and more relevant as we strive to find solutions to the threats posed by global warming. Fulbright Austria is convinced that the partnership with UAS Burgenland has the potential to generate interdisciplinary and original research of high social and economic impact. When they visited UAS Burgenland in March 2019, executive director Dr. Lonnie R. Johnson and program officer Dr. Susanne Hamscha were impressed by the state-of-the-art laboratories and the innovative experiments with reed pellets.
The “Fulbright-University of Applied Sciences Burgenland Visiting Professor of Energy and Environmental Management” will be placed in Pinkafeld, a small town of supra-regional importance with an excellent reputation as a high-quality training location and research center in energy, environmental, and building technology. The visiting professor will have the opportunity to develop research projects with faculty, teach and advise students, and contribute to joint publications. As sustainability is the overriding focus of the department, grant activities will relate to the area of sustainable buildings or to sustainable energy supply for rural regions. UAS Burgenland encourages an interdisciplinary approach to these topics that take social and economic factors into account.
US scholars who are interested in this opportunity are welcome to apply through the IIE/CIES application platform by September 16, 2019. Please visit this page for more details.
