Dr. Hermann Agis received his master's degree in biotechnology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) and successfully finished his PhD at the Medical University of Vienna. From 2013 to 2014, he pursued a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He returned to the University Clinic of Dentistry, Medical University of Vienna, where he obtained his habilitation and became associate professor. Since the beginning of his career he has been committed to promoting young scientists and scholars, a vision which he will follow in his new function as executive director of Fulbright Austria.
Dr. Lonnie R. Johnson, a native of Minnesota, graduated from St. John’s University with a BA in the humanities. He then studied philosophy and history at the University of Vienna, where he completed his doctorate in 1983. He has over forty years of experience in international education and held positions at IES Abroad Vienna, the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM), and the Austrian Exchange Service (OeAD) before becoming executive director of Fulbright Austria in 1997. He is recognized in the European and global Fulbright communities for the active leadership role he has played throughout his career. In 2011, Dr. Johnson was awarded the Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class to acknowledge his scholarship and contributions to the promotion of educational and cultural exchange between the United States and Austria.
Fulbright Austria is the premier academic exchange program between the United States of America and the Republic of Austria. For nearly 70 years, the Fulbright Program in Austria has been encouraging mutual understanding between the peoples of both countries.
