As part of our 2024 Pride celebrations, Fulbright Austria collaborated with our partners at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (DA) and organized a research presentation on 4 June 2024. After opening remarks from Fulbright Austria staff member Dune Johnson, the event featured two presentations on topics related to the LGBTQIA+ community: one by 2023–24 Fulbright-ifk Junior Fellow Aviv Hilbig-Bokaer, who showcased the research he has done into 1900s Vienna and the birth of a homosexual identity; and a second by Charlotte Ehlers, who is currently a master’s student at DA writing her master’s thesis about queer refugees in Austria through the lens of queer international-relations theory.

Following the presentations, audience members enjoyed a Q&A moderated by USTA alum and current Fulbright Austria project assistant Julia Eleanor Petron, who opened the floor to the audience after posing her prepared questions.
We are thankful to the US Embassy Vienna for graciously allowing us to hold the event at Amerika Haus, where 29 current program participants, alums, and friends of Fulbright Austria continued the conversation while enjoying light refreshments at an informal reception.
