International healthcare challenges such as COVID-19 or hMPXV teach us that we rely on collaborative approaches to tackle the issues we will face in the future on both sides of the Atlantic. Fulbright Austria is dedicated to knowledge transfer and cooperation and to strengthening the bonds that unite the US and Austria. With the support of our institutional partners and cooperating agencies in both countries, we are in a position to offer 27 hyphenated awards for US scholars and students—and now, 28. In 2022, we took the next bold step in our journey and concluded a new partnership agreement with Paracelsus Medical University (PMU), thereby establishing the second Fulbright visiting-professor opportunity at a medical university in Austria.

The state of Salzburg and its eponymously named provincial capital are among the strong pillars of the Fulbright Program in Austria. On the banks of the Salzach, Salzburg city offers a wonderful cultural and academic setting that includes teaching and research at the highest level. To strengthen the links with the Austrian states and to broaden the Austrian grant portfolio within the Fulbright framework, Fulbright Austria strives to expand the opportunities outside of Vienna. Together with our strategic partners, Fulbright Austria has established a strong community of US and Austrian alums that provides a broad network for future US Fulbrighters in Salzburg. The Fulbright-Paracelsus Medical University Visiting Professor in Salzburg city will help us to expand the opportunities in Salzburg, cultivate our active Fulbright Austria community, and strengthen the pillars of the Fulbright network in Austria beyond Fulbright Austria’s homebase in Vienna.
