Dr. Robert F. Jefferson is a history professor from the University of New Mexico and a 2019–20 Fulbright scholar at the University of Southern Denmark with a project titled “Becoming Transnational Americans: Race and Citizenship in the 20th-Century United States Military.” The US Embassy Vienna has invited him to give a lecture as part of the black history month program. In his talk, Dr. Jefferson will discuss how prominent black leaders such as Booker T. Washington and Barack Obama have provided a unique window into understanding the rich complexities of the African American experience and its impact on the international stage. He contends that by exploring these moments of international exchange, we get a glimpse into the complex issues of race and civil rights as they have been discussed both in the United States and around the world.
