Participating in one of Fulbright Austria's programs is often an important milestone in a program participant's life, but not the only important milestone. Derek Maus, who was a US Fulbright scholar in Austria with the American Studies Lecturing Award during the 2009–10 program year, recently informed us that he had reached a new milestone in his life: in 2024, he was selected to join the State University of New York's Distinguished Academy and appointed to the rank of distinguished professor. We reconnected with Derek to congratulate him on his appointment and to discuss his experience in Austria a decade and a half ago.
