During the 2019–20 program year, Lisa Oberberger went to New Hampshire as an Austrian Fulbright foreign language teaching assistant (FLTA) to teach German at Dartmouth College, where Kaj Johnson was a student in her class.

And in September 2023, Kaj embarked on his journey as a US teaching assistant (USTA) teaching English in Austria for an academic year.

A few months after Kaj’s arrival in Austria, we met up with Lisa and Kaj in the Austrian town of Villach in Lisa’s home province of Carinthia to talk about their experiences as teaching assistants and the positive effect they have on their students. We’re excited to showcase the impact our program participants can have on each other and hope to inspire others to follow suit.
