The genesis of my Fulbright Austria experience started with my first visit to the Kuchl campus of Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (SUAS) in 2007. I was a professor at the University of Tennessee. After establishing a memorandum of understanding for research and teaching collaboration between SUAS and the University of Tennessee (UT) in 2008, I received my first US Fulbright scholar award in 2014 and another as a Fulbright Specialist in statistics in 2016. The Fulbright awards solidified a long-term relationship between our universities that has fostered the following:

The past 15 years have been an amazing success story of highly fruitful international collaboration between two universities facilitated by Fulbright Austria.
- 37 summer research interns from SUAS hosted by UT
- Three UT research interns hosted by SUAS
- Nine joint MS degrees conferred between UT and SUAS
- Development of a highly successful international conference called “PTF BPI,” with the 7th biennial conference in 2023
- Faculty exchanges
- A multitude of scientific publications
In 2016, Dr. Alexander Pettschunigg (department head of SUAS) hosted the US ambassador to Austria at SUAS after an invitation from Fulbright Austria and me. So the bottom-line: the past 15 years have been an amazing success story of highly fruitful international collaboration between two universities facilitated by Fulbright Austria.
