At Fulbright Austria, we know that learning a language is about more than grammar and vocabulary—it's about opening minds, building bridges, and fostering understanding between cultures.

That’s why we’re proud of our Austrian Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program, which places highly motivated, Fulbright-caliber Austrian educators in classrooms across the United States. FLTAs bring language to life for students—sharing their culture, ideas, and lived experience.

But today, the opportunity to teach abroad is under pressure.

Due to rising J-1 visa financial requirements and increased living costs in the US, Fulbright Austria is facing new challenges that impact its ability to fund the same number of promising Austrian Fulbright FLTAs. That’s why we’ve created the FLTA Empowerment Fund—a restricted fund dedicated to removing these barriers so that ambitious educators can focus on what they do best: teaching, learning, and connecting.

Let’s build cultural understanding—together

Your contribution to the FLTA Empowerment Fund goes directly toward:

  • Covering travel and relocation costs
  • Providing in-country grants to cover rising living expenses
  • Supporting Austrian Fulbright FLTAs as they represent Austria abroad and return home with new tools and insights

How you can make a difference

Whether you're an individual donor, a foundation, or a corporate partner, your support directly impacts the next generation of global citizens:

  • €2,000   – Covers travel and relocation for one Austrian Fulbright FLTA
  • €10,000 – Offsets approximately one-third of living expenses for one Austrian Fulbright FLTA
  • €65,000 – Ensures the funding gap for the entire Austrian Fulbright FLTA Program is closed

To make your donation online, please go to the Institute of International Education's website and then follow this process:

  •     Select “Austria Fulbright Assistance Fund” in the dropdown menu.
  •     Tick “dedicate this donation."
  •     Type the word “FLTA” in the text field.
  •     Proceed with your donation and additional information as needed.
  •     Submit the form.

Please also inform Fulbright Austria if you make an online donation so that we may acknowledge it.

If you would like to make a donation using a check or credit card/wire transfer, please download the Fulbright Austria donation form→ and mail it to:
